Clarksville Police charge Bernard Davis with False Report - Clarksville Online

Clarksville Police Department - CPDClarksville, TN – On September 26th, 2014 at 9:18am, Detective Andy Hurst, from the Clarksville Police Department, responded to a False Report at a bank on Fort Campbell Boulevard.

Bernard Davis had bank employees call 911 for him and report that a man that was sitting outside of the bank in his vehicle tried to rob him. Davis told Officers that the male driver of the vehicle had a gun when he tried to rob him.

Bernard Davis

There were also three female occupants in the vehicle.

Davis stated that when he was walking on New Providence Boulevard he was approached by the driver of the vehicle. The driver asked Davis if he had any money. When Davis stated that he did not have money, but had a debit card, the driver told him to get in his vehicle.

Davis complied with the driver’s orders because Davis said the driver had a gun in his lap. The driver, Davis, and the three female occupants drove/rode to the bank where Davis had a bank employee call 911 for him.

There was no evidence of a gun in the vehicle, and the bank’s video footage revealed there was no possible way for the gun to have been discarded while they were not in Davis’ presence. Initially, Davis stated that he did not see them get rid of the gun while he was with them.

The three female occupants all stated that Davis was picked up from Lincoln Homes because he asked for a ride to the bank, which contradicts Davis’ original story. Davis voluntarily came to District 1 CI where he told a different story.

He stated that he was in Lincoln Homes and had been smoking crack all night and ran out of money. He stated that he was given more drugs on credit and was threatened by a drug dealer to pay for the drugs. Davis said that he asked for a ride to the bank to get away from the area and that he lied at first because he was embarrassed by the truth.

The driver of the vehicle also voluntarily came to District 1 CI where he gave a similar story as Davis’ last story.

Bernard Davis was arrested and charged with False Report and transported to Montgomery County Jail.

Woman charged in hit and run death of Clarksville cyclist - Clarksville Leaf Chronicle

A Clarksville woman has been charged with killing a bicyclist with her car and then leaving the scene.

Phyllis L. Taylor, 53, is accused of causing the early Monday morning wreck that claimed the life of Vince A. Freeman.

Roadway evidence indicated Freeman was riding his bicycle eastbound in the eastbound shoulder of Tiny Town Road near Needmore Road at 12:15 a.m. when he was struck from behind by a blue Jaguar, according to Taylor's arrest warrant.

Freeman was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet, police said, but an investigator said it was unlikely that would have made a difference in the outcome.

The car left the scene before officers arrived.

During a canvas of the area, Officer Harry Hampton located a blue Jaguar and spoke with Taylor.

Taylor granted access for police to look at her car, and damage to the vehicle was consistent with the wreck. Parts were missing from the car consistent with the color and type recovered at the scene, the warrant said.

Officers also saw what looked to be human hair embedded in the windshield, the warrant said.

Taylor allowed officers to view her cell phone, and text messages were on the phone regarding the wreck.

"Had an accident last night with a deer, totally messed up my Jag," the text message said. "I'm out here now trying to price some windows for the front. I'm good but it's not looking good."

Witnesses reported seeing Taylor driving shortly after the collision time and making statements that she had struck a deer.

Taylor, who gave a 2825 Brewster Road address, was charged with vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident-death or injury, failure to yield right of way, failure to carry license, failure to comply with financial responsibility (insurance). She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail Wednesday afternoon. Her bond is set at $1.1 million.

She is tentatively scheduled to have a court hearing on Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m.
